Frequently asked questions about dry toilets
What is the difference between a dry toilet and a compost toilet?
A dry toilet is a small dry toilet (ECOSAVE) that can be placed anywhere. It separates urine from feces just like our body and the contents are kept dry. Because of the separation of the 2 flows it is also called a separation toilet. Depending on the model and number of users, the bucket is changed 1-2x per month and the contents are put on the compost heap or GFT. Urine goes directly into the drain of the water.
A compost toilet is a larger toilet (Mulltoa), possibly with a tank under the floor (Clivus), that collects urine and feces together and composts them. This also does not use flushing water and thanks to the built-in ventilation, oxygen is provided in the composting. This gives you an odorless toilet.
Are dry toilets environmentally friendly?
Yes, dry toilets are environmentally friendly because they do not use water. They therefore prevent pollution because no waste products end up in the water purification systems. Their simple design and operation make them a sustainable choice and ideal for your (tiny) home, boat or camper.
Are dry toilets smelly?
No, most models have a built-in, economical fan, which ensures a ‘stench-free’ toilet and toilet area.
Can I use a dry toilet in my home?
Yes, many people do this because they save a lot of money. Regular toilets use 6 to 8 liters of water per flush, while a dry toilet uses no water. This saves you a lot of money.
Do you have to empty the dry toilet often?
No, with 2 people approximately once in 2-3 weeks (!) depending on how much toilet paper you put in. If you use the toilet with more people, you will of course have to empty the bucket more often.
Is a dry toilet easy to install?
Yes, in principle a dry toilet can be installed anywhere, to replace a flush toilet or on a floor where there is no toilet.
Is sewerage required for a dry toilet?

Operation and benefits of a dry toilet
ECOSAVE Dry toilets do not use drinking water or chemicals but separate urine from faeces, just like our bodies. This saves approx. 15,000L of drinking water per person per year! The urine can be drained separately to the sink drain, outside or collected in a urine tank. The feces and paper are collected dry and dried thanks to the ventilation.
The advantages of a dry toilet or separation toilet;
1) No drinking water connection or sewage connection required and can therefore be placed anywhere, in the attic, at the back of the garden, in an off-grid tiny house, in a camper or on a boat.
2) Dry toilets have no odors thanks to the built-in ventilation that dries the contents and extracts odors INSIDE the toilet, dilutes them and blows them outside where they are not a nuisance.
3) You can build your own separating toilets using an INI kit or purchase a ready-made MO luxury wall-mounted toilet. Can be installed directly in any toilet or bathroom.
4) A dry toilet is easy to maintain; as usual, you can hygienically clean the toilet 1-2 or 3 times a week with a little water and a mild cleaning agent. The surface is easy to clean. cleanable thanks to the antibacterial surface. Depending on the number of users, the bucket is changed once or twice a month and the contents can go in the compost bin or with the GFT or residual waste.
An ECOSAVE dry toilet or separation toilet is small and compact and can be used anywhere. Both at home, as a camper, or tent and on the boat.
