Drink rainwater

What if there was a way to be able to use rainwater not only to water your garden, but also to be able to shower or drink that water, wouldn’t that be nice? What if we told you it is possible.

Can you drink rainwater?
Yes, rainwater itself is officially pure water, so free of harmful substances and lime, which also makes it optimal for drinking water. The moment it hits the ground or roof, it becomes “dirty” with bacteria and minerals. That is why it is important that you first filter the rainwater with a suitable filter before drinking it. The Ecosave Microfiltration system, with membrane filter, is a good purification system and offers a simple and safe way to filter collected rainwater into clean shower/bath and even drinkable water.

Which filter do you need to drink rainwater?

You need a microfiltration system for this. With this filter you can purify many concentrations of bad substances, so that the rainwater is drinkable. The filter purifies the rainwater to a fineness of 0.02 mcr, so you can even drink it. Here not only very small dust particles are removed, but also bacteria such as Legionella, E-coli, Pseudomonas and Protozoa. The operation of the 5 filters is as follows;

  • Step 1: the ‘Backwash’ filter filters out the coarsest substances such as sand, rust, etc. It is easy to rinse by opening the tap under the filter (bucket underneath).
  • Step 2: This is the 25 micron woven fabric filter. This filter purifies the water from even smaller dust particles.
  • Step 3: the 10 micron activated carbon filter. The activated carbon filter removes many different (possibly harmful) particles/substances from the water as well as any odor. In addition, it improves the taste of the water.
  • Step 4: the 5 micron fine filter, an even finer filter. This purifies the water from very small contaminating particles, making the water look nice and clear. Now it is already suitable for the shower and washing machine.
  • Step 5: The last filter: the carbon/membrane filter 0.02 micron. This purifies the water not only from fine sediment but also from chlorine and other substances and bacteria such as legionella. After this, you are guaranteed drinkable water! Without extra energy, no UV lamp is required.

Cost savings with rainwater

With rainwater/rainwater and this 5-phase microfiltration system you can use the water for various things in the house or garden, even for drinking. This allows you to save up to 100% on your tap/drinking water, easily 45,000 liters per person per year. On average, you save around €135 per person per year.

It is also used in off-grid tiny houses. Make sure that the rainwater / rainwater tank is large enough, at least 1500 liters per person, then you bridge a dry period and you always have clean water to drink.

How long do these filters last?

There is no clear indication of when they will run out. It depends on how badly the rainwater supply is contaminated to find out if it is ever drinkable. That is why the filters are supplied with translucent housings, so you can always keep an eye on how bad the filters look. On average they last about 10,000 liters, but if the rainwater is very clean it can also be 25,000 liters. Filters are not expensive and can be ordered online. Do you also want to heat the rainwater that you can drink? Then also check out our solar water heaters.
Can you clean this yourself or do you need to replace it? You can clean the filters yourself the 1st x by rinsing or using a scouring pad and warm water. But if the filter no longer works after cleaning, order a new filter anyway.
